One-Card Challenge Prizes Announced

It looks like we won’t have any NHL hockey in the foreseeable future.  But we still have the Puck Junk One-Card Challenge. Not the same thing, I know, but if we can’t watch our favorite NHL players, then we might as well help each other finish off some sets.

I am long overdue in announcing the prizes for the One-Card Challenge. It was my intention to get these listed sooner. I mean, what’s the point of participating in a contest if you don’t know what’s at stake.

But I was in a rush to get the contest started on September 1, then the fall school semester started and kept me busy for a while. If anything, it gave me some time to think up of some great prizes.

Below are the prizes that the winners will get to choose from.

1986-87 Red Rooster Edmonton Oilers Set1986-87 Red Rooster Edmonton Oilers – Complete Team Set
This 30-card set showcases the best hockey team of the 1980s. Set included Mark Messier, Jarri Kurri, Grant Fuhr, two cards of Andy Moog and two cards of Wayne Gretzky.

2005-06 Upper Deck Rookie Class Oversized Alex Ovechkin Card
Measures about 3.5″ x 5″. These big cards came one per Rookie Class set.

1991-92 McDonald's All-Star Set1991-92 McDonald’s All-Star Set
Complete! Includes 26 cards of All-Star players, 1 checklist, all 6 holograms and an empty wrapper.

1994-95 Action Packed Coastars

1994-95 Action Packed CoaStars
I think this was a promotional item. Supposedly, a full set of these “collectible coasters” was supposed to be released during the 1994-95 season, but only these 6 are known to exist. Included are Luc Robitaille, Mark Messier, Teemu Selanne, Trevor Linden, Brendan Shannahan and Felix Potvin. The set is still sealed in its original wrapper.

1990-91 Boston Bruins Team Set1990-91 Boston Bruins Team Set
24-card complete set. Still sealed. Includes Ray Bourque and Cam Neely

1991-92 Promo Sheet1991-92 Topps / Bowman Promo Sheet
Nine-card uncut sheet. How many Hall of Famers do you count? I count nine: Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Sakic (soon), Ray Bourque, Ed Belfour, Mark Messier, Pat Lafontaine, Steve Yzerman and Brett Hull.

1987-88 OPC Leaders1987-88 O-Pee-Chee Leaders (“Minis”)
This 42-card set of small cards included Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Roy, Mario Lemieux, Denis Savard, Ron Francis, Al MacInnis, Mark Messier and more. Plus a wrapper.

Remember, there will be prizes for First, Second and Third Place.

Contest Leaders
Each night, I will update the scores for the One-Card Challenge. Look in the right sidebar, just under the red-and-yellow checklist card, to see who is leading the contest.

Contest Extended
Since I was really slow in announcing prizes–and since we won’t have any distractions in the form of NHL games or fantasy hockey–I’ve decided to extend the One-Card Challenge by one week. The new deadline is October 6.

Still time to play
So, that gives us another 20 days to play. If you’ve received some cards, post about it at the original contest thread so I can give you points. Many new cards have been posted over the past few days, too, giving everyone the opportunity for more points.

If you haven’t entered the contest yet, check out the contest thread here. As of this writing, the contest is wide open, so it is anyone’s game!
