Puck Junk’s Top Articles of 2017

Happy 2018, party people! As is my annual ritual, here is a look back at the most popular Puck Junk articles from the previous year.

Well, almost. I gotta make a small confession here. The most popular article on this site during the 2017 calendar year was actually “Every 1990-91 Hockey Card Set Ranked,” which was published in 2016. It just goes to show how significant the 1990-91 season was for hockey collectibles if people are still reading about those cards more than 25 years after they were made.

Anyway, here are the top 10 most-read articles on Puck Junk that were actually published during 2017.

1. Make a Custom Hockey Card in Seconds
Surprisingly, this short article about SportsNet’s custom hockey card creator was the most visited article published on this site in 2017.

2. The Best 2017-18 NHL Game-Night Giveaway Items
People love free stuff, obviously, and this article gives a look at the best game-night freebies for the 2017-18 season.

3. The Puck Junk Bad Hockey Card Hall of Fame: Class of 2017
A look at 10 of the all-time worst hockey cards ever made. Had this been published earlier in the year and not November, this would have been higher on the list.

4. Best of the Worst: 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey
Jim Howard’s semi-annual look at the funniest photography to grace Upper Deck hockey cards.

5. Every 1991-92 Hockey Card Set Ranked
A look back at the 12 different hockey card sets from the 1991-92 season.

6. NHL Bungles Its Own Celebrity Game
Justin Bieber, who has over 90 million fans, headlined the NHL’s Celebrity Hockey Game in 2017. The NHL decided to bury it as a webcast that no one watched.

7. Upper Deck Releases New Hockey Coins
Upper Deck president Jason Masherah talks about the company’s new line of silver Grandeur Hockey Coins.

8. Review: 1991-92 Pro Set Platinum Hockey
This ’91-92 set was a beauty, but only lasted for one season. Technically, this article was published on December 27, 2016, but I’m counting it as a 2017 article.

9. Top 10 Hockey Collectible Stories of 2016
2016 was arguably as epic as 1990 when it came to hockey collectibles. This article recaps the 10 biggest hockey collectible stories from 2016.

10. Book Review: A Guy Like Me
A review of John Scott’s autobiography, which tells of his rise through the ranks, from a collegiate defenseman to the NHL’s most formidable fighter. A good portion of it also discusses his memorable appearance in the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Thanks for reading, and here’s looking forward to 2018.
