1992 Score Baseball #890 – Tom Glavine
With the 2010 baseball season winding down this week, it seemed appropriate to show this card of former pitcher Tom Glavine, donning hockey skates and shooting a puck.
Trading card company Score had a penchant for showing players from one sport participating in another, such as with Eric Lindros in their 1990 Baseball Traded Set. But whereas the Lindros card was more or less a publicity stunt for the Toronto Blue Jays, Glavine was actually considered a hockey prospect. In 1984, he was drafted by both the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Entry Draft, and by the Atlanta Braves in the 1984 Amateur Baseball Draft.
Glavine wisely chose to pursue a career in baseball instead of hockey. When he retired after the end of the 2009 season, he ended up second all-time for wins among National League pitchers.
This is actually his second baseball card showing him with stick and skates – a similar photo appears on a 1992 Pinnacle card.
BONUS: Here is an advertisement from a back of a comic book that features thisTom Glavine hockey card.
what is the value of this card?
thank you
Around 25 cents or so. Score printed a lot of baseball cards that year, so this card isn’t difficult to find.
