ITG Enforcers Box Break #2

Enforcers Box TopOh yeah, I know, these cards are sooooooo January 2012. And here it is, July already. I may have busted these boxes 6 months ago, but I’m finally getting around to scanning and sorting my 3 box breaks.

5 Autographs

Andrew Peters – until getting this card, I had never heard of him. Honest.

Kelly Buchberger – I really don’t think of Buchberger as an enforcer. He had a respectable 16-season NHL career, but he did lead the Oilers in penalty minutes in 1988-89.

Jimmy Mann – Who da man? He is! And he even put a smiley face in his autograph Ior is that a squiggly mustache?)

Phil Russell – Now, that’s an autograph! I got a few autos in person from Russel a few years back, and asked him what his most memorable fight was. He told me it was against Marc Tardif – it was Russelll’s first-ever fight, which he won with a single punch. When Russell heard a recording of the radio broadcast, ‘Hawks play-by-play man Lloyd Petit made it sound like a beating, and not a “one and done.”

Basil McRae – Hell yeah! This one gets 100 on the Nostalg-O-Meter. Do you remember when his name was still pronounced BAY-sil and not BAH-sil? I think announcers started calling him BAH-sil by 1991 or so.

Jersey Cards

Clark Gillies “Instigator” jersey card – Enforcer…or Hall of Fame left wing? Discuss.

Tiger Williams vs. Terry O’Reilly “Combatants” – A jersey card of two memorable (and tough) players. Both of these guys retired before I got into hockey. I checked out some of their fights on YouTube. Here’s a link to a pretty good fight between the two.

Base Cards

SHARKS! Link Gaetz, Jeff Odgers, Bryan Marchment and Marty McSorley.

Jay Miller vs. Chris Nilan – Coincidentally, Miller played for the Boston Bruins while Chris Nilan was from Boston.

Dale Hunter vs. Mark Hunter – Brother versus brother for the profit of another!

Rob Ray vs. Jeff Odgers – I freaking love these illustrated cards. I think ITG should make a 9,000 card set of every NHL fight ever – each lovingly hand-drawn. I’d even excuse the lack of team insignias.

Warren Rychel vs. Tony Twist – I got super-excited when I first saw this card. A fight between a Blackhawks player and a Blues player from the 1990-91 season. Then I realized that it was from this 10-second fight in a preseason game, which was nothing to write home about, let alone make a card about.

***
The jersey cards are for trade, as are the ones from my first break.

If anyone has any autographs or base cards from this set they want to get rid of, let me know. I’m trying to get all of the base cards (want list here), and as many of the autos as possible.

  1. I always liked Andrew Peters as he seemed like a fun loving tough guy. I wrote an entire entry about him over at Tough Guys section of my blog. Check it out if you ever have the time.
