1990 Blackhawks Holiday Card

This came in an envelope postmarked December 19, 1990

Midway through the 1990-91 season, the Chicago Blackhawks sent my Aunt Gayle this holiday greeting card. This card was sent to all their season ticket holders. My Aunt knew that I collected everything hockey, so she gave me this card for safe keeping. And here it is, 20 years later.

The front shows a boy, smiling over the awesome Christmas gifts he received–a pair of skates, a hockey stick and a red Chicago Blackhawks jersey. The jersey is numbered 24, which belonged to Doug Wilson. Wilson–who is currently the general manager of the San Jose Sharks–was an All-Star defenseman for the Blackhawks back then.

Behind the boy is a dog, peering out the window at Santa Claus, who rides off into the night with a hockey stick in his hand and the Stanley Cup in his sleigh.

The inside of the card is the same as the 1989 Blackhawks Holiday Card. It reads:

Best wishes for a joyous Holiday Season
From the Chicago Blackhawks.

While my Aunt also had season tickets for the 1991-92 season, I don’t know if she received a holiday card, as I only have two of these. Perhaps the ‘Hawks were cutting back their expenses to cover Ed Belfour’s new contract.
