Clemente’s Corner: What I Want For Christmas

Below is a copy of a letter I recently mailed to the North Pole. I hope it gives you some ideas for the hockey collector in your life.

Dear Santa,

I hope this letter finds you and Ms. (or does she go by Mrs?) Claus well. I know you’re extremely busy this time of year, but I know this is also when children each year write to you asking for stuff.

I’m not exactly a child, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like presents. I have been a good kid (well, adult) this year.

I am hoping you can deliver one of these presents on my hockey hobby wish-list as you prepare to travel across the globe to deliver presents on Christmas Eve:

Connor McDavid Action Figure

This is no Starting Lineup figure from my childhood. These figures, made by McFarlane Toys, look extraordinary and are exquisite in their detail. I’m sure you and your elves have taken the time to admire such craftsmanship. Also, if you’re interested in learning more about them, Sal Barry interviewed Todd McFarlane back in September.

All the figures in the new line look great, but the McDavid one looks extra amazing to me. The Edmonton Oilers star would look even more amazing on my bookshelf.

Lundqvist-Shesterkin Autographed Photo

I didn’t know I wanted this until it started popping up all over my ad feeds on Black Friday after visiting the New York Rangers online team store powered by Fanatics. Let’s be honest, goaltenders don’t get enough hobby love. I wrote about just that recently for Sports Collectors Digest following the Toronto Sport Card Expo.

A newly-minted Hall of Famer and an up-and-coming star together in one autographed photo. What New York Rangers fan wouldn’t want to find this duo in a frame under the tree on Christmas morning?

Connor Bedard Young Guns Rookie Card

OK, I know what you’re thinking: This card isn’t even out yet. And it won’t be out for at least another few months.

While the elves over at Upper Deck are currently working on Series 2, we all know this is the card every hockey fan will be chasing in 2024. I’m willing to leave my stocking up for a whole year if it means getting this card at some point in 2024.

Another option is to just send along an unopened box of Series 2 — scheduled to come out on February 28 — is already selling for as much as $300 a box. Ouch!

If for some reason you can’t deliver any of these items, then just drop off a $500 eBay gift card down my chimney. I’m sure I can find a way to spend it.

Happy holidays!

  1. I couldn’t agree more Clemente having the Connor Bedard YG under my tree would be Awesome. As far as comparing the Expo to the National
What I hear and read the National should try to get more Guests for Autographs since they offer more Baseball, Basketball & Football there are many Athletes in the U.S. someone should step up and make arrangements to get more athletes in.
