On Monday, the Professional Women’s Hockey League released the names and logos for its “Inaugural Six” Franchises.
Pictured left to right above, the team names are:

- Boston Fleet
- Minnesota Frost,
- Montréal Victoire
- New York Sirens
- Ottawa Charge
- Toronto Sceptres

When the PWHL started play last season, teams did not have nicknames or logos, instead using just the city names on the jerseys.
Now, fans can cheer for the “Boston Fleet” this season, which is 1000 times better than cheering for the “Boston Hockey Club” like last year.
Honestly though, I didn’t mind that the PWHL started its first season without team names. They got the league up and running – which is way more important – then took its time developing brand identifies that will hopefully sell merchandise and keep the league going strong.
Speaking of which, PWHL jerseys with the new team logos will be available at the end of October or early November, as per The Hockey News. A 50-card set of PWHL hockey cards will also be out sometime in the fall.
However, I am bummed that the New York Riveters logo from the Premier Hockey Federation wasn’t carried over to the PWHL. But I can understand that the new league wouldn’t want to have anything to do with its predecessor.
We will talk more about these new logos in the next episode of the Puck Junk Podcast, coming this Friday.

Yeah, I agree that Riveters is a better name than Sirens. Sirens makes one think about looks, which isn’t good, and also about emergency vehicles which today of all days we don’t need to evoke for New York.
