The 9th Annual Puck Junk Awards

This year, the NHL skipped its annual awards show, instead announcing its annual trophy winners throughout the end of the season. That’s a bit of a letdown, as the NHL Awards Show – as cringy as it is sometimes – is a nice way to bookend the season. 

Show or no show, players still got their awards for being the best goalie, the best defenseman, the league MVP, and such. 

But sadly, there are no awards for the player with the most punchable face, the goalie least likely to play in an NHL game who got to play in an NHL game, or the guy who changed teams the most during the season. 

That is something I rectified in 2018 when I launched the Puck Junk Awards, for the true unsung heroes of hockey. 

So, let’s take a look at the Puck Junk Award Winners for 2026.

In this episode, Sal Barry and Clemente Lisi talk about the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, the Hurricanes’ stellar play, goaltender Brandon Bussi seemingly coming out of nowhere, and why team captain Jordan Staal was the only choice for playoff MVP. 2025-26 Fleer Ultra Hockey Box Break

For the first time since 2014-15, Fleer Ultra Hockey cards are back as a physical card product. After the 2014-15 season, Fleer Ultra went away for a while. Then it came back in 2021-22 as an e-Pack only product consisting of digital cards that could be combined into special – and physical – parallels. 2025-26 Fleer Ultra marks the brand’s return as a physical product that comes in physical packs and has, you know, actual physical cards. The set is is also available on e-Pack. 

Shortly after its release, 2025-26 Fleer Ultra Hockey shot up to about $400 for a 15-pack box. Each pack contains 8 cards. Perhaps part of the excitement about this year’s Fleer Ultra set is that you get four serial-numbered cards per box, plus one PETG (“Clear Cut”) card. Since its release, the set has cooled – if you could call it that – down to about $360 a box. 

Although we talked about the 2025-26 Fleer Ultra Hockey set in dtail during Puck Junk Podcast Episode #245, I thought it would be nice to share a breakdown of all of the cards that I got in the box that I opened.

2025-26 Upper Deck Series Two Box Break

Released in March, the 2025-26 Upper Deck Series Two Hockey card set is a continuation of Series One, which was released in October. Like Series One, Series Two has 200 base cards and 50 short-printed Young Guns. You get one Young Guns rookie card in every other pack, for a total of six per box.

A hobby box – costing around $230 – has 12 packs. Each pack has 12 cards. Let’s look at what’s inside a typical box of 2025-26 Upper Deck Series Two Hockey.
