Playmobil Stanley Cup Presentation Set

With the Stanley Cup Finals starting tomorrow, now seems like a good time to look at the Stanley Cup Presentation set by Playmobil. Several years back, Playmobil released a whole line of hockey toys, including NHL player figures, a rink playset, a Zamboni, and even the Stanley Cup – along with two Keepers of the Cup. Let’s take a closer look at this fun little playset.

The Stanley Cup Presentation set consists of two “Keepers of the Cup” Playmobil figures, a table with the NHL logo, a red carpet, and – naturally – a Playmobil-scale Stanley Cup trophy. Also included is a sticker sheet with an NHL logo sticker (which gets affixed to the plaque on the front of the table) and an instruction sheet.

The two Keepers of the Cup wear matching suits and white gloves – as they should. I think the one with the blonde hair is supposed to be Phil Pritchard, but the hair doesn’t look quite like his. The brown-haired figure might be Craig Campbell, but that figure is lacking glasses. So, I guess these are just supposed to be two generic “Cup Keepers” and not anyone in particular. The figures measure just under 3″ tall.

The Stanley Cup has a slot on one side for a figure to easily hold it.

The Stanley Cup is around 1-1/2″ tall and the table it sits on is about 1-3/4″ tall. The table the Cup sits on is made of the skirted table base. Notice that the table is blue. Normally, when the Stanley Cup is presented, it is placed on a table with a black tablecloth. But considering that the Keepers of the Cup wear black, that would have been way too much black in this set. Making the table blue was a nice way to give this set more color. The red carpet measures around 2-1/4″ by 5-1/4″.

The Cup has a slot on one side for a figure to hold it.  That’s a nice touch – but if the Cup had two slots in it – one on either side – than both Cup Keepers could hold the Stanley Cup together.

Because of that, it is really hard to create the scene shown on the front of the box. Best you can do is have one figure “hold” the Stanley Cup while the other just props its arm underneath it.

Another thing that could be better is the red carpet, which is really just a piece of cardboard. I think the carpet could have either been a piece of felt – so that it feels more like a carpet – or a piece of vinyl.

Rating 4 out of 5

Minor grievances aside, the Stanley Cup Presentation Set would make a nice gift for a younger hockey fan – or even an older fan if they collect figures. Hey, the box says ages 5 to 99, so most of us fit in there. You can easily find this set at Amazon.
