Everyone who collected hockey cards during the early 1990s knows of the Stanley Cup Hologram released by Pro Set during the 1990-91 season. But many don’t know about his little brother – the NHL 75th Anniversary Hologram, produced a year later. To commemorate the NHL’s diamond anniversary, Pro Set made 10,000 copies of this card and randomly inserted them into foil packs of 1991-92 Pro Set Series 2 hockey cards. 2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day Two
NOTE: You might want to read the Day One recap first:
2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day One
Chicago, IL – July 31, 2010
We arrived at the convention around 9:30 AM, and headed over to the autograph room to try and get wristbands. Scheduled to sign at 11 AM were Stan Mikita and Eric Daze.
It turns out that Mikita was sick, and did not attend the show over the weekend. My girlfriend and I each got a wristband for Eric Daze. Continue reading “2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day Two”
2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day One
After some computer problems, then a road trip to Memphis, I am finally getting around to posting my recap of the 2010 Blackhawks Convention (“Hawks Con”).
Chicago, IL – July 30, 2010
Opening Ceremony
We arrive at ‘Hawks Con around 4:30 PM. Every year, the convention officially starts with an “Opening Ceremony” at 5:00 PM. In 2008, this was very cool, as the team announced that Jonathan Toews was appointed captain, and that number 3 was being retired to honor both Keith Magnusson and Pierre Pilote. Huge news that the die-hards like myself got to hear first. Continue reading “2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day One”
Video: Photo with Stanley
The Stanley Cup—the oldest freakin’ sports trophy in the world–was downtown in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon. Fans were able to get their picture taken with the almighty chalice.
I was one such fan, waiting about 1 1/2 hours for my photo opportunity. I think it came out pretty well.
Also, I was featured prominently on the CBS Channel 2 news in Chicago.. Here is a link to the video–that is me near the beginning (before I put my ‘Hawks jersey on), at the very end, and peppered throughout.
Video: Blackhawks Parade
On June 11, I went to the Chicago Blackhawks victory parade. It was awesome! Around 2 million people showed up to cheer the ‘Hawks on their Stanley Cup victory. I’ve finally had the time to edit together the photos and video I shot at the parade into a short film. Enjoy!

I’m totally going to see this
You may have seen commercials for a movie called The Tooth Fairy during the Winter Classic on Friday. Here is the official trailer for that film.
Oh man, where is the downside? This could be one of those so-bad-it’s-awesome kind of films. It’s about the meanest, roughest pro hockey player who has to become a tooth fairy. As if the irony of that isn’t delicious enough, it stars Duane “The Rock” Johnson as the main character. “The Tooth Fairy” comes out on January 22. It will probably suck, but probably end up being unintentionally funny in the process too.
Chris Chelios speaks
Last night, Comcast Sportsnet Chicago had a one-on-one interview with my favorite player, Chris Chelios. He discusses why he has not retired yet, if any teams have offered him an NHL contract and if he would consider returning to the Blackhawks.
Blackhawks / IKEA commercial
I haven’t had the time nor ambition to do a full article or blog post today. So instead, here is a funny commercial starring Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Hilarious! But now I’m not sure if I want to buy Blackhawks’ tickets or a couch.
It’s Saturday!
My two favorite songs to hear on a Saturday night:
“Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” covered by Nickleback. This really gets me psyched for the next six hours of hockey. It reminds me of the “Are you ready for some football?” song from Monday Night Football, but in a good, non-redneck kind of way.
“Canadian Gold,” the new Hockey Night in Canada theme. This is the intro from last year–I can’t seem to find a video of this year’s shorter intro. Personally, I like the minute-long version instead of the truncated version. True, everyone likes the “old” theme song better. Having a new HNIC theme is like giving Star Wars a new theme. But “Canadian Gold” is still pretty awesome.
Bottom line, the only thing I want to do on a Saturday night is watch Hockey Night in Canada. A perfect Saturday evening starts with the “Saturday Night” song and ends with “After Hours.” Fortunately, my girlfriend is pretty understanding. Plus, she does not like going out on cold, winter Saturday nights anyway. Good thing hockey is not s summer sport.
