Monster Drops the F-Bomb

In last night’s Toronto-Montreal game, Maple Leafs’ defenseman Mike Komisarek accidentally passed the puck to Canadiens’ forward Mike Cammalleri, resulting in a sweet one-timer goal. Hilarious, because everyone knows that you should never pass the puck in front of your own net.

Even more hilarious was Leafs’ goalie Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson bellowing  the F-Bomb at the top of his lungs after he realized that it was his own d-man who set up Cammalleri.

Historic Hologram

1991-92 Pro Set NHL 75th Anniversary HologramEveryone who collected hockey cards during the early 1990s knows of the Stanley Cup Hologram released by Pro Set during the 1990-91 season. But many don’t know about his little brother – the NHL 75th Anniversary Hologram, produced a year later. To commemorate the NHL’s diamond anniversary, Pro Set made 10,000 copies of this card and randomly inserted them into foil packs of 1991-92 Pro Set Series 2 hockey cards. We arrived at the convention around 9:30 AM, and headed over to the autograph room to try and get wristbands. Scheduled to sign at 11 AM were Stan Mikita and Eric Daze.

2010 ‘Hawks Con – Day One

After some computer problems, then a road trip to Memphis, I am finally getting around to posting my recap of the 2010 Blackhawks Convention (“Hawks Con”).

Chicago, IL – July 30, 2010

Opening Ceremony
We arrive at ‘Hawks Con around 4:30 PM. Every year, the convention officially starts with an “Opening Ceremony” at 5:00 PM. In 2008, this was very cool, as the team announced that Jonathan Toews was appointed captain, and that  number 3 was being retired to honor both Keith Magnusson and Pierre Pilote. Video: Photo with Stanley

The Stanley Cup—the oldest freakin’ sports trophy in the world–was downtown in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon. Fans were able to get their picture taken with the almighty chalice.

I was one such fan, waiting about 1 1/2 hours for my photo opportunity. I think it came out pretty well.

Also, I was featured prominently on the CBS Channel 2 news in Chicago.. Here is a link to the video–that is me near the beginning (before I put my ‘Hawks jersey on), at the very end, and peppered throughout.

I’m totally going to see this

You may have seen commercials for a movie called The Tooth Fairy during the Winter Classic on Friday. Here is the official trailer for that film.

Oh man, where is the downside? This could be one of those so-bad-it’s-awesome kind of films. It’s about the meanest, roughest pro hockey player who has to become a tooth fairy. As if the irony of that isn’t delicious enough, it stars Duane “The Rock” Johnson as the main character. “The Tooth Fairy” comes out on January 22. It will probably suck, but probably end up being unintentionally funny in the process too.
